About Conference

What is NIBS?

The NIBS conference is organized by the Mads Clausen Institute at University of Southern Denmark, the North German Initiative Nanotechnology Schleswig-Holstein e.V.  (NINa SH eV) network, led by Kiel University, Germany, Kaunas University of Technology and Lithuanian Materials Research Society, Lithuania.

Conference will take place on 14-16 June 2017, in Kaunas University of Technology, Lithuania.

Attendees from industry, academia and politics are invited to enter in a dialogue about the potential for interdisciplinary applications and new products from nanotechnology.

NIBS offers:
– state-of-the-art and stimulating presentations
– matchmaking events
– a dialogue platform between experienced and young researchers from industry and academia

NIBS provides presentations from companies and research institutions on current trends in the field of nanotechnology. Companies have the opportunity to communicate their success stories and the newest developments in-house. Young scientists present their work and find entrepreneurial opportunities.

Why NIBS?

In contrast to national conferences, NIBS brings together researchers and business stakeholders from the Baltic Sea Region (BSR) as well as parties involved in the cooperation with the BSR partners to share latest achievements in research, innovative solutions and applications in the field of nanotechnology. In contrast to large scale international conferences, NIBS focuses on the BSR, where the innovation potential from newest technologies is utmost high.

The book of Abstracts in printed version will be distributed during the Conference. The participants, wishing to give oral or poster presentations, are kindly asked to submit the abstract (up to 1 A5 page) in electronic form during the registration or by sending the email (nibs@ktu.lt).

The abstract should be prepared using a template provided and according to the following rules:

Oral Presentations

The times allocated for oral presentations are as follows:
– Plenary lectures, 30 minutes total
– Oral presentations, 20 minutes total
Please allow up to 5 min for discussions. Participant should upload their files and/or test their presentations before the session.
Poster Presentations

A poster session is a graphic presentation of an author’s research. Authors illustrate their study findings by displaying graphs, photos, diagrams, and a small amount of text on poster boards. A good format to follow is: Title and author(s); a brief introduction; experimental details, if novel; results and conclusion.

We recommend A1 size poster in portrait. Organizers will provide participants with all the necessary equipment to hang the posters. Participants can put their posters up at the beginning of the day of their poster session or just before it.

On-site registration starts on 14th of June at 9 am.
Lectures will be organized from 14th to 16th of June.
The poster session is planned for 15th of June.
Departure is planned on the afternoon of 16th of June.

Conference will be held at SANTAKA Valley − Integrated Science, Studies and Business Centre.
Conference venue is K. Baršausko str. 59, Kaunas, Lithuania.

By plane

Kaunas can be easily accessible by plane from two airports: Vilnius International Airport and Kaunas Airport.

Vilnius International Airport is the main international airport in Lithuania. It is located in the south of Vilnius and only 7 km from the centre of the capital. More information can be found on the Vilnius airport website.

The city centre can be easily reached using city train or bus. There is special train between the Railway Station and the Airport. A train stop is located close to the passenger terminal (timetable). Bus stop is situated just outdoor the airport. Buses No.1 and No.2 go to the train/bus station (timetable). Also it is possible to take a ride to the train/bus station by a minibus of the company TOKS (timetable).

Train and bus from Vilnius to Kaunas will take approximately 1 h 45 minutes. Taxi from Vilnius Airport to Kaunas will take about 1 h 20 minutes, and will cost around 80 Eur.

Kaunas Airport, located about 12 km north from the centre of Kaunas, has scheduled connections to 19 destinations in summer season. More information can be found on the airport website.

Bus connections from Kaunas Airport take around 45 minutes to Kaunas city centre. There is very convenient way to reach the Kaunas central bus station by bus No.29 (transport).

Taxi from Kaunas Airport to Kaunas city centre will take about 20 minutes, and will cost around 18 Eur.

Public transport in Kaunas

You can buy a single ride ticket from drivers on a bus/trolleybus (the coins are expected) or to buy an e-ticket valid for 3 or 7 days in the newspaper stand, that are located most often next to the bus stops. The e-ticket gives access for unlimited use of a bus/trolleybus for the purchased days.

Some options may lead you to Vilnius which sometimes is more convenient for the arrival by plane. Vilnius is just 100 km away from Kaunas. If you use public transport, your destination in Kaunas is Kaunas Bus Station (Kauno autobusų stotis) or Kaunas Train Station (Kauno geležinkelio stotis). They are situated close to each other and to the city centre.
